Title: The Law of The Third.
Post by: The General on Apr 19, 01:14 PM 2018
Here’s something that you don’t know about the “law of the third”. The law of the third has actually been around for quite a long time. It only became popular after 1982 because of two gamblers that were involved in an incident in North Hampton. Specifically the Rubicon Club Casino.

The two men were playing visual ballistics and were busted using while using a hidden communication device. (The device enabled the vb observer to discretely say the predicted number into the player’s ear so that he could then bet a 12 number section of the wheel.) (It was not a computer.) They had been winning quite a bit of money, all over Europe with their method. When interrogated by the police, the Polish member of the group, Paul Phillips, claimed to be a mathematical genius that had invented a method based on the “Phillip’s Law of The Third.” Of course, both the name of the man and the system were just a cover story for the visual ballistics.

After being arrested and spending the night in jail, the police chose to let them out of jail and offered them a chance to prove that they weren’t cheating by demonstrating their 12 number betting method. So they did, over five whole spins. LOL! When they hit three or four times, the casino and police were flabbergasted at their hit rate. (Keep in mind the police and gaming were basically as stupid and naive as they are now.) Consequently, reports of the law of the third’s success spread like wild fire! Everyone wanted in on the system. Even to this day people naively believe that the law of the third can win. All because of a cover story.

Of course, later on, people like Ron Shelly and George Melas came to realize what was really taking place. The men were visual ballistic/wheel watchers. They continued onward, making millions on their tour across Europe. As did some German teams. Their success led to the invention and production of the low profile wheel.

So their you have it. The law of the third system is a farce. It’s a built upon a cover story created by two clever visual ballistic players that made it popular back in 1982.

Cool anecdote, thnx.

Nevertheless, the law of third is a statistic, not a system.  Some betting systems are based/inspired by the LOTT.  Nuance.

Law of the third isnt rubbish...it is reality.
However, it is only reality in hindsight.
After the event
The amount of combinations of what the 24 hit in a cycle can do to keep the 13 out is humungous.

Binomial distribution is real.  The law of the third...not really.  It's just a made jargon.   It would be like someone saying that they could beat roulette by using the law of even chances, the law of averages (law of large numbers) or the law of one in thirty seven.   Unfortunately knowing the probability doesn't enable you to exploit it or side step it.  Back in the 1980s, rumors of the law of the third spread fast.  People were trying to sell it in the back of newspapers, magazines, etc..  It was absurd.  Countless people foolishly tried to replicate what they'd heard about the VB players,  by studying binomial distribution/law of the third,( but not vb). Of course they all failed because it was nothing more than a cover story for what really took place.  To this day, people are still trying to exploit it, completely unaware of the farce, foolishly looking for the secret "crossings" to make it work.

By the way, I know both men in the story.

The law of the third and the law of averages are BS terms that people have trying to use in order to beat roulette for a loooong time.

General,

I've just read a bit about binomial distribution on Wikipedia, many terms are way beyond my understanding of mathematics.  Can you please provide a ''binomial distribution for dummies''-type of explanation?  On this post or a new one, whatever.  And also of course, a way to apply this knowledge to roulette.

Thanks!

1. The law of a third is no different to saying there will be around the same amount of reds/blacks.

2. The problem with that gif is I didn't think of doing that first. It's imaginative, very clever, would be a great ab workout, and would even make a ding sound.
