Odds and payouts are different things. If either the odds or payouts don't change, then the result is the same - eventual loss.

Copy this code to clipboard.   Paste it using 'CTLR-V'. Paste it in this GW-Basic emulator here:

link:://:.addressof.com/basic/#/Home

Save it (it will still be there in 'FILES' next time you open the emulator) using no more than eight characters:

SAVE "ROULETTE"

Run it:

RUN

If it's not already loaded, run it this way:

RUN "ROULETTE"

Be sure to lock your caps.

It's the only system i know of where you can still win, even if you lose!  Have fun!

Well, it's not actually a method, but you can bring a method to it.  It's an old Basic program that let's you play against the computer while it keeps score and makes funny comments.  The emulator is written recently (not by me) in Microsoft Silverlight and emulates GW-Basic. It's very good ( I tested it). This code would also probably run on MBasic, which was Microsoft's earlier Basic for 8-bit CP/M machines.   I found the code in a CP/M archive; so it might date anywhere from 1980 to 1987.

ps ~ Use 'CTRL-C' to stop the program at any time.  Use 'CONT' to continue, or 'RUN' to run it again.

Yep, it runs in MBasic, Microsoft's flagship product before it got into the operating system business in '80-'81.  Pics show it running in one of my emulators, SIMH (Altairz80) by Peter Schorn, running CP/M + MBasic.

Quite a blast from the past!  Line numbers and GoTo's powering it!

Thanks for the post.

Now that's longevity for text-mode programs; 80's wonder still running in 2012!  :thumbsup:
