OK im just playing roulette for 6 months, have over 10000 recorded spins live online casino.
I was testing the my code4 variant, playing for each column its own progression... did test it with recorded numbers managed to  have many time +100 units on 50 spins..

Of course until you play for real...
My column progression can handle 15 sleeps, because thats the longest sleep i ever recorded, and normally only bet when it sleeps for 4 spins.  However now i start from 1...

After you play long enough you tend to realize that absolutely nothing is impossible or should shock you.  That is a tough string on the columns sleeping 14 and then right into another 20 sleeper.

It just makes you think a little when seen during testing.  Then you tend to discount it because of the rarity and say "I've seen that in testing but what are the odds it's gonna happen while I'm playing?"   When you've never have seen it in testing it's a real kick in the teeth...we've all been there and all have lost decent sums learning our lessons the hard way...forums like this try to minimize that type of exposure by allowing us all to learn from others experiences both good and bad. 

For what it's worth I seldom play dozens or columns but when I do I sometimes play with a negative progression as you no doubt were playing...then I hit a stop loss 5 or 6 steps before I would go down in flames with my session bankroll or run into a table limit...then switch to a different method with a high strike rate and wait for a trigger to resume betting at a high dollar amount. 

It still can lose...just as you saw a 14 sleeper morph right into a 20 sleeper...but had you stopped your progression at 9 losses...added up all the remaining bets you would make through 14 (your presumed 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th bets) and then used that as a bankroll on another betting string...would the outcome have been different?  Maybe, maybe not...but in my own experience it helps to stabilize a system like you are using without taking away all the profits on the top end.  I'm sure some people would say stick to plan A and ride it out...I for one learned my lessons the hard way as you just did...so now my plan A is what I just described.
