I just ran across a note I had when I was playing Blackjack about 40 years ago.

It was regarding gambler's ruin.

I had calculated that I had about a 1% advantage counting cards and playing a bet spread of 1-5 units.

A friend who was into math a little, said that in order to have a 99.5% chance of not losing my total bankroll, I needed 1,000 units.

Remember, that's with a 1% advantage over the casino.  I don't know what is needed if you're playing a single zero roulette wheel, but I'm sure it's substantially more.

Bankroll is king.

Remember, "He who has enough money is a Lion!"

In my case it doesn't matter.  I'm both!

A player having 1% advantage can in a game as blackjack play 10000 hands before he can see any result of it. The variance in some games are large, and it takes time to be on a safer side. So a decent bankroll is needed.

We can lose for month and still be plus at the end.

All players who can get a slight advantages, try to keep the variance as low as possible.

If a solo player play against a roulette table, the table can lose a lot due to variance even if they have a 1.3 to 2.7%  advantages.
The roulette table keeps the variance down if the table has many players, and may be most bets are placed.

At roulette it is not possible to get a mathematical advantage as in some card games. A large bankroll put the ruin in the future, if we are lucky we die before ::)   I've always wondered why so many shoots himself in Monaco after an unsuccessful martingale, they could die richer if they did it before the game.  ::)
The only way is die when a head or stop the game  forever when we had won. At least play less after a large win.

We should anyhow not use any money in a game we  can not effort to lose, that make the question of bankroll difficult.

We can win more in the longer run if we use cents, a way to extend the bankroll units, and effort to risk it. 100 Euro can be 10000 units.

Old Christiaan Huygens  did some work on this matter(Exercitationum mathematicarum.)
The best way to fail, is not to try!

i understand that we need a bigger bankroll to play the game.
but how big is this big? is there a formula for it?
suppose we are flat betting on a 9 numbers per spin and you will hit on an average of 5 spins and the largest DD encountered is 20 spins.
does it mean that my expected BR is 9x20 = 180u?

Good question, Marvin.  How long is a rope?  How big is a bankroll?
