He doesn't fear the air as some might.//- does not oxidise in air
My other neighbor is slippery allright, //80 - Mercury (Hg)- liquid
But still gets to hang with us toughies by birthright.//but metal nevertheless

My neighbor above is much like my little brother, //47 - Silver(Ag), less precious than gold
Except he knows how to make rain like no other. // Silver iodide is used in rainmaking
My neighbor below is harder to meet than any other,// 111 - Roentgenium(Rg), only a few atoms have ever been produced.
That's why most people usually don't bother.// Isolation of an observable quantity has never been achieved

And that makes me gold - 79(Au) in the periodic table, with the neighbors above (left/right/up/down).

That- 'listening' in Chemistry and Physics in school some 35 years ago really paid off then eh!!
I knew it had something to do with Earth, once that connection was made, I just hadst 2 figure out which bit of the Mother Earth it was.
