Was looking across the border bay at Detroit, was wondering what the hell is a big weird tower there on the American side. Church? Could not find it in Google.

then a US Coast Guard ship was passing  by, i was wondering what the hell they do on Canada/US lake borders? and when i was watching it looked like it was towed by some small ship. All this was WEIRD.

I cannot speak as to what the tower is, but here in Oklahoma we have a tiny lake that is managed by the U.S. Coast Guard.  Looked very strange to see that written on the bow of such tiny boats!!

I learned this much:  You do NOT litter a Coast Guard water.  Even if you're a kid.

Lived in Windsor for 12 years.  Ironically, the toughest casino i've played at to make money... go to the MGM just across the tunnel if you're really into bj.  (Six-deck games, and they'll let you make $10-20,ooo before "moving you on".  Overly-fair games.)

Here's the top-ten buildings in Detroit, link:://:.modeldmedia.com/features/topten.aspx .

But if you stay in ANY of the motels there, answer your door FOR NO ONE.  (They'll follow you from the casinos to your door... knock you out, and rob you.)

P.S.  Now that i remember it, the Detroit river was dredged-out to allow the lake-freighters to pass through the middle... resulting in severe under-tow currents.

There is a story, could be a myth though, that that was done in a V-shape specifically to cause such currents to prevent would-be illegal immigrants from swimming to U.S. shores.

I don't know where they obtained that photo... Detroit does have a very pretty riverfront as veiwed at night from Riverside Dr East all the way to the casino.

Garnaby,

I went across the border bridge to Detroit a a couple of weeks ago, long process on the border, it is not as simple as used to be. Did not like Detroit at all.Windsor is much better.

Thank you, iggiv, for your reply.

For a year or two after 9/11/2001, the line-ups were 2-3 hours.   And years later, when the crossing time fell to half an hour, the customs agents' union had the "bright idea" to bargain for better salaries by making that time even longer.

Near the end of our residence 5 years ago in Windsor, and perhaps still for those living there, it was cheaper/easier to take the tunnel-bus to the MGM casino.   (I heard that fare went up from $2. 50 to over $5. )

I'm very sorry that you didn't have the sort of experience there to which i was accustomed. . .  and more sorry that i lead you astray.   (But of course, always glad to hear your own comments. )

Windsor still sends me a lot of good comps, and i make it back there a couple of times a year.   And planning to make a real trip of it again someday, when able.   (Business has steadily declined, and it looks like they're really starting to try harder with the remaining customers. )

buddy Garnaby, nothing to sorry about, u did not lead me, i lead myself :)

I was with a coworker, we went there just for short time to see around, maybe some shopping mall for fishing and stuff like that,  he never been to the States. He thought
he could find in States some good stuff and cheaper. He drove, i was there with him. There was nothing interesting there, and GPS did not help very much. So we just moved around, saw surroundings, did not like very much and went back to Windsor.

Well, i imagined Detroit something like Toronto, with shopping malls everywhere and so on. It looked very different. I am not sorry, I saw it, that's enough.
