What have you learned about roulette in 2010?

This could be a good thread. Have you made any significant breakthroughs in your game in 2010.
It could be regarding bet selection, money management, philosophy etc....
Anything that you think has helped to improve your play.

Personally, I have came to a few conclusions this year.
I used to spend most of my time designing systems without really thinking about anything else. This year in particular, I have spent more time thinking about the rest of the stuff.
There is no point in feeling 100% confident behind your bet selection and not having a clue about MM.
Progressions were always a big no for me. On saying that, I think if used right, they can help a player. I used to read all of gr8player's threads on another forum. His main theme was how to tackle what he termed 'player variance'. It happens to us all, we can't avoid it. You could have the best bet selection since sliced bread but there will still be days when the roulette wheel just does not want to play ball and can make things very difficult.
When you also consider that most of us probably have a limited bankroll compared to the casino, then it really makes the variance of a player an important issue.
The way I tackle it is to keep a running order of my wins and losses. For example, suppose you have the following results... WLLLWLLLWLL. Here you have 3 wins versus 8 losses. What I have started doing is to only play when my WL record of the last few spins is at least running at 50%. Also let's say my base unit is Ã,£1.00 and I am down 10/15 units which happens often. If I start winning, I will increase the base unit to Ã,£1.25, if I win again, I will increase it to Ã,£1.50 and so on. If I lose a bet, I will revert back to the Ã,£1.00 base unit. I suppose this is kind of like what John Patrick suggests. On a winning run, youare looking to increase your bets slightly and take advantage but you also want to capture some profit. I would not consider using a straight doubling up procedure to recoup some losses. What I am applying here takes a lot of patience and time. However if you consider time is money, then this way of playing has probably won me a lot of sessions that I would have normally lost. Keeping your bankroll in tact is a must. That is one other thing I have learned this year. I don't go to the casino anymore to win. I go there not to lose. You would be surprised how much pressure that can take of you. Let the wins come by themself. Doing it this way actually forces you to take the wins when you are up. You see it as a bonus and grab the money. All the wins add up and as long as you more or less break even the rest of the time, you are guaranteed to walk away a winner in the long run.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on what I have learned regarding roulette in 2010.

I've learned....that it wasn't enough to want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em...

And that if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again,

I shouldn't look any farther than my own back yard.

Because if it isn't there, then I never really lost it to begin with.
