WOULD YOU DIE TO DEFEND FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OF IDEAS, OF THOUGHTS?

Frankly, it bothers me NOT the slightest if someone defends Visual Ballistics, Advantage Play, Mathematics, Biased Wheels, Numerology and so on, as their preferred method of selection.

Each to their own preference, I say.

At the end of the day debaters can agree to disagree...in a civilised and friendly manner.

After all,  friendly debate is one thing. But outright condemnation of another person because you don't like what they say is not what we want on this forum.

I've just read an old thread dripping with vitriol and intolerance:

I was appalled. Horrified.

It has prompted me to open this topic and to remind us all of a quotation that has great relevance for this forum:

Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write.
[Voltaire, letter to M. le Riche, February 6, 1770]

In other words, let there be on this forum freedom of speech, of ideas and of thoughts.

Let none of us fall into the oh-so-easy-trap of thinking:  there's my way...and the wrong way.

Defend the right of members to post their views and ideas even if you disagree with them.

Respect others' points of view.

Be tolerant.

Live and let live.

And then this forum can shine as a light to others.

WOW...
That was beautiful.
Well put.
Well said.
:'(

I think we tolerate a great deal in this forum.
We even let people post links, ideas, and the occasional system seller.
Though we try and avoid them. Or block or delete their posts.
That is, if they break with the guidelines.

Keep the place clean if you can.
There are some things we will not tolerate.
Porn...
Slander...
Abusive language...
Insults..
System sellers... (Keep an eye on)
Peace to all.
Good will to you and yours.

Right to reject someone's idea with logic and debate is essential of any forum and every idigestible concept should not be left uncommented just to make a very sobre appearance. Just one think should be kept in mind that can you tolerate the comment that you are making on others had it been upon you. Concept should be negated and not the person.

Droganson

Being respectful and courteous to the end is the way to go in my opinion. No matter how much the other person may ridicule you or make you angry you mustn't let them get to you. Kill them with kindness or at the very least they will get bored and go away. Nothing is EVER accomplished when two people are senselessly trying to one up the other. EVER.

I agree Esoito.  Speech, as long as it doesn't cause dissention should be welcomed.  Moreover, members shouldn't form cliques against other members if they don't agree with their beliefs/dislike the person.

esoito, I think you have misunderstood Wannawin's intention in that thread, there is no "condemnation of another person" that I can see, only criticism of numerology. As albalaha said: "negate the concept and not the person". Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but surely you're not trying to argue that somehow all opinions are equal, and that numerology is just as valid a way to win at roulette as physics or even statistical analysis?

The only good thing I see is that the numerologists now believe that this forum is not good enough for their material and they no longer publish here.
Roulette is the hardest game and the more exciting for everyone because it is easy to operate and pays 35 to 1.

At no point did I accuse any specific individual of anything -- I carefully avoided names.

Interpretations are always in the eye of the beholder.

I'm neither defending nor opposing numerology.

I thought Albalaha's observation was very well expressed -- play the ball and not the player.

I defend the right of people to agree or disagree with the thread.

I'd prefer to avoid arguments with anyone over the main thrust of the thread, from which I don't resile.

But there is no black and white.

At the end of the day one's perceptions of 'reality' depend largely (but not exclusively) on

* personal philosophy
* beliefs
* attitudes
* life experiences
* education levels
* cultural influences

...with religious beliefs to add seasoning to the mixture  ;)

One thing none of us should forget that we are a mutually connected community with common interests and shelter(our forum). An educated roulette player has to be more decent than a street gambler because I believe that roulette is the most mathematical game in the world which is truly meant for educated class only. Hence we should behave like that.

I totally agree with esoito.
I also believe in clear rules. Like for example" "XXX issue is not allowed here" Otherwise we have to respect others' opinions and arguments. What I sometimes do not respect much however is others' claims. But this is another story...
