i had a big issue, and wanted to reinstall windows, everything was too slow. Well, registry mechanic really helped, so far it is working like new.

My computer got hacked about 2 years ago and I thought it was a gonner. It was only 6 months old at the time. I called Microsoft and they wanted to assign a tech to remotely un-install and re-install windows at a cost of $150.00. I called the computer manufacturer and they gave me a few very simple instructions to do it myself. The un-install, re-install took about 90 minutes. Problem solved, virus gone, $150.00 saved !!! The really time consuming thing was putting all of my files, music, etc back into the computer after the re-install.

Mac OS and UNIX are far better, I was on Mac before, but I do some work there I am expected to know and use Windows. Windows is the most commun OS, but yes there are better.

According to plenty of folks, Linux *is* ready for the ordinary user.

Defining ordinary user as the one who uses the web, creates documents and spreadsheets and the usual basic activities, plus some tasks such as image editing, audio editing and the like. Nothing too "heavy".

Personally, I know of at least one distribution that is (almost!) "entirely there": UBUNTU

Some of my computers use Ubuntu, but the problem for me is a lot of software I need only runs on windows, and wont run in the wine / pc emulator in Ubuntu. For the average person though, Ubuntu is much better, and there is a free application for almost everything. I dont doubt that eventually linux will take over windows, if windows remains expensive and crap

Long time ago you just could face a prompt and must provide args in Unix.
Mac OS is a variant for example.

As with windows you can play with the DOS prompt, but few do.

Linux has many distributions that is friendly for ordinary users.
I don't know how to hack or programming - but i run Linux.

I run Ubuntu for many years now and never had an issue.
No virus or intrusion.

Fast and stable and that could not say about Windows.

That is true.

Windows users can have severe problems with this. Me had much in the past. I am experienced Linux user also but at the moment using windows. True is that many applications I need can't be run on Linux, even with simulator application. Not to say about drivers and "flash" applications can be big problem.

No matter how much i tryed on Windows not to get infections like not visiting suspicios sites, carefuly sharing and downloading files etc i would always got some infection, and problems would start sooner or later.

Now i know very simple trick that can be used to run your windows and browse on site you want flawlesly without problems.

Thing is to activate free DNS server protection that some companys are offering like "Northon" or "Sendori".  And put some free antivirus like avira free or panda cloud, and i can bet that you will never heard of virus again and you will love windows again.

If someone has some problems with viruses and safe surfing my advice is to do activate DNS protection + some antivirus.

The only problem I have with ubuntu is many important installations are not a double click as it is with windows. There are all kinds of commands in the kind of dos prompt. If all you do is surf the internet and check email with the occasional print of something or whatever, by far ubuntu is better option. But if you have to run specific windows software, first try it in the ubuntu windows emulator. Most programs will work in it. But the complex ones wont.

You can use VirtualBox with a windows image.

It runs *EVERY* windows program under Linux, even the most complex ones, because it's windows itself


With seamless mode they are integrated just like any other program, with their own separate window which you can maximize and minimize, they even share Linux's clipboard.
